Port Talbot is a town in Neath Port Talbot, Wales, and has a population of 37,276. Port Talbot is situated 7 miles east of Swansea and lies along Swansea Bay.
Sites of interest include Margam Country Park, a country park estate that covers an area of 850 acres. It is located 2 miles from Port Talbot. Margam Castle was constructed during the nineteenth-century. Margam Abbey was founded in 1147 and was dissolved during the sixteenth-century; many of the ruins survive today, several of which are Grade I listed. Margam Stones Museum holds a collection of Celtic stone crosses. Port Talbot is perhaps best known for Port Talbot Steelworks, which is one of the biggest in the world. South Wales Miners' Museum opened in 1976 and is a museum of the coal mining industry.
There are four comprehensive schools in the area. Port Talbot has facilities for sports including rugby, cricket and football. Port Talbot Town F.C. play their home games at Victoria Road, which has a capacity of 6,000. Afan Forest Park lies near the town, and comprises trails for mountain biking, hillwalking and hiking.
Port Talbot Parkway railway station offers services to destinations including Swansea, Newport, Cardiff, Manchester and London. There are bus services in operation in the town.
